ANALINE: Lightly scratch the surface, if it scratches to a lighter color as shown in the above picture. Wet your finger and lightly rub it into the leather to see if it darkens. It should darken lightly, but dry invisibly.

NUBUCK: The surface should have a texture similar to velvet. You move your hand across the surface and, if it leaves shading traces similar to the effect when you vacuum a carpet in one direction and then in another, it is nubuck. Wet your finger and rub it lightly on the surface. The surface will darken and also will dry to a slightly darker shade.
What is PIGMENTED/Protected, Analine and Nubuck Leather?PIGMENTED/PROTECTED(P): Top grain leather that is dyed for color and then receives pigment to ensure color consistency. Without pigment a protected leather is not color consistent. The pigment also ensures fade resistance and helps the leather wear over time. Most surface has some sheen look. Because of its stain resistance quality, this is the most popular choice for furniture (make up about 80% of the market)
ANALINE (A): Top grain leather that is dyed for color without any pigments applied. These hides will exhibit some natural characteristics such as healed scars, scratches, neck and belly wrinkles. Expect color variation from the swatch to the actual leather, due to the fact leather is a natural product and will absorb dye differently within the hide and from hide to hide. Analine is known for its smooth, inviting feel. It is often the most expensive. This leather will develop a rich patina over time, absorb stains easilty, and will fade with prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Nubuck Leather (N): Top grain leather that has been aniline dyed for color and then polished/brushed to create a nap. Since Nubuck leather has NO pigment applied these hides will surely exhibit color variation from hide to hide. Some natural markings are visible throughout these hides. Nubuck absorbs stains easily and prolonged exposure to sunlight will cause these leathers to fade quickly.
